Houston Criminal Lawyer Andy Nolen: Can I Be Charged With a Crime I Did Not Commit

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

20+ years as a Houston Criminal Lawyer has taught me a number of lessons about our criminal justice system.  People often feel that if they have done nothing wrong, then they cannot be chaqrged with a crime.  This is absolute nonsense.  I myself have been thrown in jail and charged with an assault I did not commit.  All it took was a police officer that didn’t like me…and off I went to jail.  The first 6 cops had no problem with me, but number 7 didn’t like my attitude and off I went.  At the jail he inquired if I was just going to pay the fine and be done with it.  I told him absolutely not, I had done nothing wrong, I was being falsely arrested and that I was going to bond out and take my case to trial and win.  And that is exactly what I did and yes, my case was dismissed.

As a Houston Criminal Lawyer, my best advice is this:  Do not have any involvement with the criminal justice system.  Don’t attract the attention of the police, don’t behave in such a way as to cause the police to be called, and if you think the police are headed your way, your best strategy is to retreat and stay uninvolved if possible.

Houston, Harris County, indeed our country spends way too much money arresting and jailing people.  Do recreational drugs? Oh…they will spend $35,000 a year for years on end to ruin your life by putting you in lockup.  Suffer from mental illness?  You can live on the street and eat out of trash cans.

A huge fortune and waste of America’s riches are spent combing our neighborhoods to look people up.  Stay out of the dragnet!  Houston Criminal Lawyers are often asked by their clients how this or that is supposed to rehabilitate or help them.  Answer:  The Harris County Criminal Justice Center is a giant punishment machine.  It is not there to help you, it’s there to make you suffer.  If you get caught up in the system, pull out all the stops to get the best possible result and make sure you never come back.
